I know band/musician bios are typically written in the third person, but screw that. Hi! My name is James. I am the Mopmonster. Welcome to my website. I've been playing music since I was a child. I've been writing songs since I was 14 or so. I've been in many bands, including Soul Conspiracy, Joe And A Bunch Of Other Guys, Terror Toys, Spitkiss, Dreams of the Fall, Control Theory, and Deathline Int'l. You can download some songs from some of these bands at the Mop3s page. I've also done short-term fill-in work for bands such as Blind Before Dawn, Secret Secret, and 13th Sky. In addition to these bands, I've made a lot of music on my own or with friends informally, either as Mopmonster or Mad Genius, most notably "Silly Monkey." Most of the songs under these names have been either instrumentals, or silly funny songs. I consider myself a guitarist first and foremost, but I also have some ability on programming, bass guitar, keyboard, saxophone, drums, and vocals. I also do all of my own recording, mixing, and engineering. My most recent project is my album Food Metal, which is currently nearing completion. You can read more about the album on the Food Metal page of this site. I decided to start on Food Metal in early May 2004. Since Control Theory was winding down, I didn't have much to do musically, so I decided to challenge myself. My goal was to write and record a full-length album of heavy metal songs about food within one month's time. It's May 30th as I'm typing this, and I'm partway through mixing the album, so I think I will meet my goal, or only miss it by a few days. As I worked on it, it just kept getting better and better, and exceeded my expectations. I got a lot of my talented friends to contribute, and it's been a blast. I live in Sunnyvale, California. I work at an office job. It's all right, and I make enough money and have enough free time to do what I want for the most part, so it's cool. When I'm not making music or working, I like hiking, spending time with friends, putzing around online, updating my LiveJournal, going to goth/industrial clubs or rock shows, road trips, and so forth. I try to be a good person but I suppose I don't always succeed. No reason not to try though. Thank you for visiting mopmonster.com. Please enjoy my site and my music. James Perry, May 30, 2004 |
